A Google Doodle Rant on Pseudo News

April 23, 2010

Warning: Friday rant. Lately I’ve noticed that the Google doodle is frequently featured in articles listed in the Google one-box news results. How relevant are these pseudo news?

For example today is St George’s day, which is celebrated in typical Google fashion with a doodle on the home page.

When clicking on the doodle, it does a search for “St.George’s Day”…

Google Search Box

…and among the search listings is a one-box with news on the topic, and among those an article by the Telegraph about the fact that Google’s made a doodle for the event!

Yes, this post is perhaps as much of a pseudo news as the above story, hence the initial rant warning:-) Happy Friday!
