The Clutterfication of the Google Search Engine Results Page

November 15, 2009

Google has made a name for itself by providing the best search results, but also for having a pleasantly clean site without all the fluff of it’s competitors. But is all that about to change?

Here’s another quick rant. With recent efforts to improve the searcher’s experience and paid advert click-through rate (and ultimately revenue) the Google search engine result is getting increasingly cramped. Innovations such as integration with google base, site links, universal search, google checkout badges, comparison ads and now product listing ads with images, the clutterfication has truly begun.

Google’s stock is priced for continual growth that continues or replicates their past success. So, they will never really be able to settle in and just do what they do better than anyone else. That’s the down side of their huge success in the market.

I totally agree on the “uncluttered” appeal of Google. I thought the first warnign sign was when they started swapping out their logo with cutesy stuff.
